Monsters in Menagerie

Summon or augur a monster

Search the monster index by type, size, habitat, alignment, and challenge rating, then surface a statblock that is ready for encounter prep.

  • Quickly search and find a monster based on needs: are you in a hot desert, stumble on an exotic location during planar travel, or just hills? Monsters can be augured by Habitats
  • Looking for the biggest Celestial creature? That and any other size or type can be used to augur a list of monsters that can appear in your scene
  • Or do you simply need a list of Chaotic Evil creatures of CR 3? This tool has you covered
  • You can mix and match any of the filters although too many filters might sometimes yield no results
  • Just looking for any surprise monster? Click the beholder and let it Summon a complete random creature

Guide

How to Use It

Click the generator image to summon a random monster. The result respects the filters you currently have selected.

If you want a specific creature, choose it from the Monster Name list and press to reveal that exact entry.

Behavior Note

If no monster name is selected, Augury summons a random monster that matches the current filters.

What It Shows

Each result includes the monster header, combat stats, catalog details, and structured sections such as traits, actions, bonus actions, reactions, and legendary actions when available.

  • Size: Tiny through Gargantuan.
  • Type: Beast, Dragon, Fiend, Undead, and other catalog types.
  • Alignment: The recorded alignment.
  • Habitat: Environment or planar origin.
  • Challenge Rating: Including fractional CR values.

Use filters to narrow the catalog before summoning or auguring.

Filter Tip

Start broad, then narrow by habitat or type first. If the name list becomes empty, clear one or more filters until matching monsters return.

WotC Reference

For more context, consult the Monster Manual 2024 edition or the source material for your adventure. This tool is designed to surface the statblock quickly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do monster filters work?

Each selected filter narrows the monster catalog before you summon or augur a result. Combining habitat, type, size, alignment, and challenge rating reduces the available pool.

How do I clear the current monster filters?

Reset or loosen one or more filters until matching monsters return. If the name list becomes empty, you have filtered the catalog too aggressively.
